my new year's resolution

i apologize. i have been pretty slack. no - i have been unimaginable.

the past few months have been really tough and ironically, i have been crocheting my head off. afterall - how do crafty people mourn? they craft. however, now all of the stuff i have made is sitting in my studio with no home. i had to cancel my last show so i have lots of extra stuff!

my resolution (and yes i realize it is christmas eve, not new year's) is to stop monkeying around and get on the ball already!

a very cool gift for, well...anyone - even yourself!

check out these coffee cozies! they are handmade (by me!) covers for your soda can, starbucks cup, water bottle...maybe even your yogurt?! they are made to look like little sleeve cuffs - but funkier and much more useful! they are a great way to show your unique side while enjoying your favorite beverage. they will even help to keep liquids their perfect temp while keeping your hands comfy and dry!

best yet, it eliminates the need to take a new one of those little cardboard cozies at starbucks everytime you get your morning latte. how eco-friendly!

it can have a wider mouth at the top to accomodate and adjust for slanted cups and what not. how versatile!

did you know...you can recycle those envelopes with the plastic window along with your regular paper stuff? i didn't until yesterday! go figure! you don't even have to take the window off. when the paper is put through whatever magic recycling machine the-powers-that-be use, the plastic and adhesive and what not is all filtered out.

take that, junk mail!

green tip no. 2

even though it is probably more eco-friendly to send an e-card rather than a paper one, a lot of us (myself included) still feel like the only proper way to thank someone or extend birthday wishes is with a real, old fashioned greeting card. however, did you know that at most card/grocery/drug stores there is a section of cards made from recycled materials? they are well done and just as cute as the traditional (and often pricier) non-green counterparts.

so now, you can wish your sister "happy mother's day" or send a sympathy card to your friend and be totally green, too!

better yet - why not check out some of the handmade cards on etsy.com? many of them are also made with recycled material (some even have seeds in the paper so you can plant them) and since they are handmade, there isn't a lot of waste from production and all that...

the next time you need to buy handsoap - buy the larger sizes meant for refills. the pumps on the original containers are what takes the most amount of energy and resources (i.e. plastic) to make, so by using them again you are cutting back your waste.

for some great handsoaps that are eco-friendly and smell awesome (and refills are available!) try method - available at most target stores...
